REPOST: Remembering 9/11 – Bruce Springsteen Songs From “The Rising” Live and Acoustic

(REPOST) Sorry about the graphic image, but I wanted to make sure you didn’t forget what today is.

September 11th will always go down as one of the worst days of my life.

I was nowhere near New York on that day the towers fell… I was safe in my San Diego apartment… the sun was out, the air was cool, and I didn’t have a care in the world… what started out as a good day turned black in a matter of seconds.

We all have our 9/11 stories, and they are most likely all bleak, dark, and awful.

I’ve always wondered what 9/11 stands for now. Does it represent anger? Does it represent pain? Does it represent tolerance? Loss? Death? Unity?

For me, 9/11 stands for all of those things, but most of all it represents unity… not against a common enemy, but unity without cause or reason. People have made fun of this line for years now, but 9/11 begs the question, “Why CAN’T we just all get along?”

What is it about humans that drive us to fight and kill over things as stupid as “this is mine, not yours,” “I don’t like how you look,” and “my loving God told me to kill you!”

Boggles the mind… boggles the mind.

I make it a point to listen to Bruce Springsteen’s album, The Rising, every September 11th… the album still resonates inside of me and reminds me that what seems trivial isn’t… what we take for granted are often times the things we remember the most… when you’re with your loved ones, it doesn’t matter if you’re just sitting around doing nothing, the point is that you’re together and you’re both safe.

So here are songs from The Rising done acoustically by Mr. Springsteen. These were all recorded during his Devils & Dust tour… I’m going to make it a point to post these each year… I still don’t have “Worlds Apart,” “Let’s Be Friends (Skin on Skin),” or “The Fuse” done acoustically… if you have them in your collection, please pass them on to us.

Take a listen and don’t ever, ever, ever, EVER forget.
