The Rules: I reset the play counters for all the songs currently on my iTunes. Then at the end of every week, I check to see what the top five most played songs are. Whatever happens to be in this top five are then presented in order here from most played to least. If I have posted a particular song in the past, then I will bypass that song and post the next in line. If one artist dominates the list, then I will write about that artist in lieu of a Top Five list.

Sirens are wailing as I type this. I can hear a firetruck bolt down the street, horns blaring… made me go check to see if my house is on fire. It’s not (obviously), but man alive that sound always gives me the chills. I remember the time I hung out with my good buddy Pres Obama… we were sitting outside some dive bar in San Diego when he looked at me and said, “You know what we should do?” Now, whenever Obama says that, I get worried… “You know what we should do?” usually ends up with one of us either in jail or in some scheme to create a new, more efficient form of energy using urine.

So anyway, he says those words to me, to which I reply “Dude, I don’t wanna hear it.” He says, “No, listen… this time it’ll be good.” I sigh and give in… “Ok, what should we do?” He looks me straight in the eye and says this without blinking: “Three words: Platypus Snuff Film.”

That’s when I knew he should run for President of the United States. Sure, this story doesn’t have anything to do with fire engines, but who cares? Here’s This Week’s Top 5 Most Played Songs From My iTunes!

Who’s My Bitch – Paradiso Girls

Ok. I have no idea how “Who’s My Bitch” by Paradiso Girls found its way to the top spot this week, yet it happened.

This is truly one of the great mysteries in life… it ranks up there with Big Foot, the Lock Ness Monster, and why the heck Yoda needs a cane if he can kick ass like he did in those Star Wars prequels.

The Paradiso Girls are apparently the European version of The Pussycat Dolls (even though their website says they’re from Los Angeles). Although I’m not sure if the world NEEDS a European counterpart, I have to admit that I quite enjoy this track. Maybe it’s how they manage to rhyme “ho” with “door.” Maybe it’s how they don’t have to pay any royalties for ripping Bizet’s “Habanera” melody. Maybe it’s how hot they are. Nah… couldn’t be that. No WAY that’s a marketing ploy.

What’s kind of funny is that their bio claims that “Paradiso Girls isn’t your stereotypical girl group.” Um. Ok.

Anyhow, I played this song a whopping 18 times this week. Wow. Where did I find the time to study?

Who Wouldn’t – Luna is Honey

I gotta tell ya… the opening groove to “Who Wouldn’t” is what kept me coming back for more… and when the beat changes into more of a straight beat at 0:35… well, I’m just a happy boy. The rest of the song is pure gravy.

Luna Is Honey was formed back in 2006 and have recently released their third album, Copy Cats. I can’t find much about them online except that they’re a BeatCrave Fav and their MySpace page is here. Maybe someday I’ll bump into them here in So Cal. That would be a pretty good day.

I listened to “Who Wouldn’t” 13 times this week. Man, that opening groove is nice!

Daniel – Joshua James

Back in February of 2009, we had Mr. Joshua James as our Featured Artist. I absolutely love his voice and songwriting and hope that he continues to make music for a long, long time.

In that Featured Artist post, I put up a video of a song called “Daniel.” Well, that song ended up on his Build Me This record, and I just recently rediscovered it.

According to James, “Daniel” is about having to explain to a kid (Daniel) that his older brother is not coming home because he was killed in a war… and about the senslessness that war can be.

Here’s the first verse:

Come on down,
From that tree little Daniel,
Come on down,
The winds are getting cold,
Found your brother naked,
Alone, crying out in the storm,
Screaming God, God, my God,
God I’m comin’ home.

The song hit me hard when I first heard it and it continues to do so.

I played “Daniel” 10 times this week.

Paris (Ooh La La) (live 6-9-2007) – Grace Potter & the Nocturnals

I posted an excellent bootleg from Grace Potter & the Nocturnals this week. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you totally should. They play a lot of songs off their new self-titled record. One song in particular got me going quite a few times this week… “Paris (Ooh La La)” is actually a pretty old song that dates back to at least 2007.

So this week’s limerick is dedicated to Potter and the Nocturnals for putting “Paris” on their new record. I’m glad they did and in time, the entire world will be as well. INCLUDING Taiwan. Oh yes… they will be… if it’s the last thing they ever do… they will be.

As usual, I will time myself to see how long it takes me to write this. Ready… GO!

Hey Potter and all you Nocturnals
I been writing about you in my journals
I dig your new songs
They make me sing along
But I can’t if ‘tween my teeth are some kernels

Wow. That actually took me 39 seconds. It’s like I was born to write that limerick.

  1. Hi,

please respect the rules at totally fuzzy, NO 2008-2009 releases, I have let this pass for quite a while but this is where it ends. I suggest you don’t post these Most Played Songs as an update anymore on totally fuzzy. For the rest, assuming it doesn’t violate any of our rules, you’re welcome.

  2. I'm quite fond of your five this week…

    I love “Paris”… a lot. And Joshua James… a lot.

But I gotta ask… “Who's My Bitch” 18 times, Swap?

Yes, it's a bit catchy. And yes, they're all hot. But seriously? EIGHTEEN TIMES?

    Swap. Swap. Swap.

  3. The JJ song is searing. And beautifully realized in the studio. Rare double feat. Even if he does look like Jared Leto.
How many songs can Fissanux rip off in one single song? I dare you to name them all.
