Lil’ Swap and his mommyIt’s Mother’s Day!
Like many of you, I don’t know what I would do without my mom. She’s been with me since my birth (duh!) and has given me everything that a mom can give. I still talk to my mom every day and the amazing thing is that I can still hear the excitement and happiness in her voice whenever I call. After all these years, my mom isn’t bored or sick of me yet… and that’s saying something about my mom, not me.
A few weeks ago, my mom stopped by my house with a bunch of groceries. She knew that I had changed my diet (more about that at another time) and went out to get me the foods that I had mentioned I wanted to eat. She just went out and did it, completely unsolicted. I was amazed and couldn’t thank her enough.
I said to her, “You didn’t have to do all that, ma!”
She looked me square in the eye and retorted, “How can I not do this for my son?”
It was at that point I almost cried… but I held it in because then my mom would say, “Did I raise a crybaby?” and none of us wants to go down that road.
I love my mom and I’ll always be her little boy. She and my dad have done their best with what they had to work with. The last couple of years haven’t been all sunshine and roses for Ol’ Swap… without my mom and dad I’d probably be dead, face down in some ditch just outside of Bakersfield.
So for this Mother’s Day, I’m going to do something just for my mom. Below in the Dig-It section, you will find a few songs that I know my mom likes. How do I know this? Simply because she told me so.
You’ll find most of the songs from the 80′s, and that’s because I lived with my parents during that time. They really don’t know what I listen to now.
Before I get to the music, though, here’s something that I read yesterday that literally made me shed a tear (maybe my mom DID raise a crybaby). This is dedicated to all the moms out there… whether you believe it or not, you’re the glue that holds the world together.
Happy Mother’s Day!

Wish her a Happy Mother's Day for me, she has such great taste in music…probably where you got it from :)
That's the sweetest little poem *sniff*
Don't ya just love how moms know just what to do and when to do it?… like getting you the healthy groceries. Awwww. By the way, I think it's great you're trying to eat healthier. I've been doing so for about 6 months now, and while it may be seem hard at first, and you may miss things, you'll get used to it, and not only will you feel better, you'll probably really enjoy it!
Thanks for the tunes :) Those are some fun songs!! BUT I'm thinkin' you left out her favorite artist – just sayin ;)
Your mom likes U2? really????????????? or did you sneak that one in there?
I love some of those songs too, and … I'm a crybaby too – lovely verse. Happy Mother's Day to your mommie!
I have all the Air Supply records up until Now & Forever because my mom loves them. The first time I played an Air Supply song, she came into the room and said, “Who sings that? That's wonderful!” From that point on, I'd play Air Supply just so I could use the stereo. First Air Supply, then I'd play something she didn't like… then Air Supply, then something she didn't like. Hey, it worked.
Eating healthy SUCKS. I've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and I'm CRAVING some bad-for-me foods. I'm sticking with it for at least 2 months, though… I want to see how it goes. I've been reading more and more about the holistic approach and I'm going to slowly move towards that. This is a BIG step for me… hopefully I can stick with it and make it an unconscious part of my life.
Yeah, I left out her favorite artist, but to include one song from that particular artist would make all the other songs seem like poop, and I can't do that to those songs ;-P
No, she really likes that song. We were driving on the 10 freeway and I played “I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.” She said, “I like this.” I started to tell her the lyrics and she said, “Those are really good words.”
That following Christmas she bought me U2's WAR album, brand spankin' new because I had a used copy. I love my mom!
Thank you!!!!
There's nothing wrong with being a crybaby (as long as it's done in the privacy of your own home and nobody's around). That's my philosophy ;-P
Thomas, you are a good son. You play Air *sucks* Supply for your mom. That's sweet. I do like her Pat Benatar selection. How did she come up with that one?
Congrats on the eating healthy and losing weight. It's not easy, you will always have cravings for bad food. Take my word for it. But the great thing is the more you know about healthy eating, the less you will be interested in buying the crap. Cheating once inawhile is acceptable if you don't want to drive yourself crazy.
Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Lee. You don't have a crybaby, he's just a little emotional now and then.
my twins gave me that poem along with their handprints when they were in kindergarten. needless to say i boo hooed! still do every time i look at those little handprints.(sniff) my mom's tastes were quite diverse, along with my dad's, so i guess that's why i like everything from classical to bluegrass. please wish your mom “happy mom's day” from all the mom's that think her son is pretty damn cool!
So, if it takes like 21 days to make a habit, and you plan to try to go at least two months, I'd say you're well on your way to mucho success :)
And yes, I see you're point. I didn't think about that whole poopy song thing… wow, you're so smart.
I'm not even TRYING to lose weight. The problem is that I'm constantly hungry but I don't have the opportunity to eat… so I go hungry for most of the day. I've been snacking on nuts, but that only goes so far. I want a BIG steak.
And a BUNCH of bread.
Hey now… Air Supply does NOT suck. They're just misunderstood ;-P
I used to play all these songs at some point for my mom to hear. It'd be SUCH an accomplishment for me to find a song she actually likes. “We Belong” is one beautiful song, so I'm not surprised my mom likes it.
I'm NOT a crybaby! I'm NOT I'm NOT I'm NOT!!!!!
Thank you! That's very sweet of you to say.
My parents liked either classical music or Air Supply. They could tolerate other artists, but Air Supply reigned.
