Amy Kuney was once kidnapped by rebels while on a Guatemala sightseeing trip.
That’s pretty frikkin’ unbelievable… but it’s apparently true. I’ve never been kidnapped by rebels before. I have no frame of reference to even fathom what that must have been like.

But there’s a silver lining to everything (so they say), and this awful experience inspired Kuney to throw herself into her music. She converted her basement into a studio and began writing, recording, and eventually getting noticed by some industry folk. She’s in her mid-20′s, but has already scored spots on television shows like One Tree Hill, Passions, and Gilmore Girls.
Maybe I should get kidnapped someday. Any takers?
Kuney’s latest release, Bird’s Eye View, came across my desk a while back… I’ve spun it often because it’s hard to forget. Her voice has that soft quality to it that is so pleasing to hear, and when she does eventually belt it out, all you can do is sit back and thank your lucky stars that it was captured on tape.
Here’s a gorgeous performance of a Damien Rice‘s “Blower’s Daughter.” Watch this video, and then make sure to play the second one as well… it’ll give you an idea of how powerful a tool the Internet is.
I’ve posted one of my favorite Amy Kuney tracks, “Would You MIss Me” down below in the Dig-It section. It’s poppy, it’s catchy, it’s a road trip with your windows down.
Check out her MySpace page, check out her show dates, check out her music.

Holy moley! Kidnapped by Guatemalan rebels?! I’d say she deserves good things to happen to her for life, after that. If it had been me, I’d still be rocking in a corner of a padded room somewhere, wearing a pretty straightjacket.
