This Week’s Top 5 Most Played Songs From Swap’s iTunes

The Rules: I reset the play counters for all the songs currently on my iTunes. Then at the end of every week, I check to see what the top five most played songs are. Whatever happens to be in this top five are then presented in order here from most played to least. If I have posted a particular song in the past, then I will bypass that song and post the next in line. If one artist dominates the list, then I will write about that artist in lieu of a Top Five list.

Ok, so I’m a day late with This Week’s Top 5 Most Played Songs From Swap’s iTunes, but the point is that it’s here and it’s AWESOME.

Yes, this week’s list will please everyone… it’ll make you laugh, make you cry, make you think, and make you want to cuddle.

CUDDLE, I say. CUDDLE. Sometimes you just gotta cuddle.

Are you ready? Are you fully prepared to experience this list?

I think you are. Here’s This Week’s Top 5 Most Played Songs From Swap’s iTunes.

Are You Gonna Go My Way? (live) – Lenny Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz‘s hit “Are You Gonna Go My Way” floored me when I first heard it. It was released in 1993 from the album of the same name, and remains one of his most popular songs. I remember seeing him perform it on the MTV Music Awards with John Paul Jones, the bassist from the mighty Zeppelin.

It was then when I said to myself, “Man… he’s a lucky dude.”

Yeah, I was jealous.

Jealous like a… like a….

What the hell is known to be jealous? Like a fox? No. Like a chinchilla? No.

Like a guy who saw Lenny Kravitz perform “Are You Gonna Go My Way” with John Paul Jones on the MTV Music Awards?

I think so.

I played this live version 14 times this week. I think this is the MTV Music Awards performance. It’s rad, man. Rad.

Hide Your Matches – Julianne Hough

I don’t remember when Julianne Hough and I first crossed paths. It was probably somewhere in New Orleans, because whenever I “cross paths” with someone, it’s usually in New Orleans.

If memory serves, though, Julianne was the ninja dressed in red… yes, I said NINJA.

Red ninjas are the worst because they feel no pain. I mean, they biologically feel NO pain. I have no idea what they do in order to achieve this, but it probably has something to do with “Unagi.”

Hough is probably best known for her performances on the TV show Dancing With the Stars. She did so well, in fact, that ABC’s 20/20 said she was one of the “very best dancers on the planet.”

They forgot about her ninja abilities.

I rather enjoy her music… never saw her dance, but she’s quite a singer.

Point of No Return – Expose’

Here’s another 80′s song that has somehow found its way onto this list.

Expose’‘s “Point of No Return” was originally recorded by different members. It was released in 1985, I think. I remember my neighbor had the 12″ single and brought it over, announcing that it was “pretty cool.”

Now, I am never one to ignore things that are “pretty cool,” so I took a listen and concurred that it was, in fact, “pretty cool.”

The 12″ single did well, as did the follow up, “Exposed to Love.” After securing a record deal, the group went through some changes. All the original members left and were replaced for some reason. Weird.

That’s like all the members of the current Lakers team quitting right before the final game of the NBA Finals.

Or like Luke Skywalker quitting right before becoming a Jedi.

It doesn’t matter… Expose’ still rocks. And I listened to “Point of No Return” 10 times this week.

One question, though… what the HELL is with that girl on the right in the album cover???? What was she looking at?

Lone Tree – Sarah Siskind

What the hell is with the movie The Devil’s Rejects? It’s weird. Like REALLY weird. Like so weird that Mr. Weird would say, “Dude, that’s f***ing weird.”

I’ve always wondered what it takes to be that weird. I know that I’m weird, but I’m not THAT weird. Am I? Maybe if I allowed that weird side of me to come out, I’d be a super-rich movie producer and stuff. I just have to think of weird images and characters… the weirder the better.

Sarah Siskind isn’t weird. She’s the opposite of weird. She’s the non-weird. Siskind released her latest, Say It Louder, this year and is a gorgeous listen.

Not a “weird” listen, but “gorgeous.”

Yeah. I’m all out of weird.

Sultans of Swing (early demo) – Dire Straits

I didn’t really get into Dire Straits until their hugely successful 1985 album, Brothers in Arms. I thought it was a breath of fresh air compared to their previous material. The songs were catchier, the production crisper, and the songs were just… better.

That’s not to say that I didn’t dig on “Sultans of Swing,” though. Who DOESN’T like this song?

I came across this early demo of “Sultans of Swing” a while ago and totally dug it. It doesn’t sound that much different than the official release, but it’s an interesting listen.

Waitaminute… you know what’s weird? The movie Made of Honor.

In many ways, it’s weirder than The Devil’s Rejects.

Totally, completely weird.
