Is it me, or is TV’s “dumb” factor at an all time high?
Take a look at this video from the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.
In case you didn’t know, that flying guy is Cohen, who is doing that particular stunt to promote his upcoming movie, Bruno.
Frankly, I don’t get it. I don’t see the humor in it, and I am surprised Cohen didn’t get his ass beaten by those bodyguards… who, incidentally, didn’t do their jobs very well. If that were President Obama in Eminem‘s seat, the flying guy would be shot dead long before touching down.
I also don’t see how that stunt would make people want to watch his movie.
I don’t blame Eminem for leaving, and I would sue Cohen’s ass to boot.
Nigel Tufnel put it brilliantly: “It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.” Cohen obviously chose not to be clever.

Agreed 100% – it was stupid, and I KNOW it’s not just cuz I’m old.
I laughed so hard..got my son to watch , laughed again and am still laughing..love seeing these “stars” with bodyguards get brought down a peg..of course I think it was set up…
Gives new meaning to a sex swing…egads.
It. Was. Not. Even. Close. To. Amusing.
Not much about that show was. They even muffed Ben Stiller’s award. Come on!
I really hope Eminem’s reaction was sincere because his walking would gain respect. But the cynic in me wonders about Mr. Mathers’ new album and – coincidentally! – all the new articles suddenly out about his addictions, his tortured last few years, etc.
I hope that was real. But I doubt.
What gets me is that there will be people who will look at this “joke” and call it comic genius.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry that there are plenty of people who could be so bereft of intelligence and good taste to find that incident to be ingenious, except for the kind of low that stupidity had reached with a stunt like that.
And I’ll bet people will have the audacity to accuse Eminem to be a pompous snot ala Donald Trump versus Ali G.
To those who find this to be “comic genius,” I say “I don’t get it.” What is so ingenious about eliciting a negative reaction from people by acting like a total buffoon and a jerkoff around them and treating them like crap? Put two and two together: you treat people badly and they are going to be angry with you. The only people who thinks this is comic genius are mental retards.
The whole ‘flying into the venue in assless chaps’ thing is soooo Howard Stern ten years ago. It wasn’t funny then, either, just awkward and stupid. One of those things that I’m sure seemed hilarious on paper. Although if he had totally committed to it and crapped on Eminem, I might have liked it more.
