Led Zeppelin Saves Nevada

I just read a fascinating article regarding Led Zeppelin and crickets. What’s the connection, you ask?

Well, it appears that Nevadans (I always thought they would be called “Nevadians”) are using the Mighty Zep to deter the semi-annual cricket invasion. The town of Tuscarora apparently blast Zeppelin music to keep the crickets at bay.

How bad is this cricket invasion? Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“They march in columns up to two miles long and one mile wide from about May through August. They hatch in April and invade all aspects of life before they finally lay eggs and die. They destroy crops, invade people’s homes (one resident said, “You’ll wake up and there’ll be one sitting on your forehead, looking at you”), and clog roadways—even requiring snowplows to clear out their piled-up carcasses.”

That’s frakkin’ gross.

I used to live in a cockroach-infested apartment complex. I’d wake up with a cockroach staring at me from my desk. When the complex finally had a massive extermination, the cockroaches all decided to die in the middle of the living room. It was so disgusting I had to move out of there. I can’t even imagine what the residents of Tuscarora have gone through.

Anyhow, crickets apparently stay away when they hear some Zeppelin… which is weird because you’d think if anything liked Led Zeppelin, it’d be crickets. They are, after all, the most Rock N’ Roll insect in existence… well, them and ladybugs. They ROCK.

So in honor of the fact that Led Zeppelin has super powers beyond that of mortal man, here’s the first installment of a live bootleg of theirs, dating back to March 11, 1975 in Long Beach, CA. Sorry I’m not posting the entire show yet, but it’s a lot of music and I need to study blood vessels.

(By the way, we all knew they possessed super powers, right?)
