Punk rockers Gossip have released a new single, “Heavy Cross” from their upcoming album, Music For Men. If you’re not familiar with Gossip, the band formed about 8 years ago and consists of members Beth Ditto (Vocals), Brace Paine (guitar & bass), and Hannah Blilie (Drums).

Having formed in Olympia, Washington in 2000, Gossip now calls Portland, Oregon home. Music For Men will be the fourth full length studio release from the band, and the second with drummer Hanna Blilie. Former Gossip drummer, Kathy Mendonca, left the band in 2003, two months after the band released their first live album, Undead in NYC. In their bio the band describes themselves as feminists, artists, disc jockeys and writers. They go on to say that they have collectively spent 80% of their lives in airplanes, that they love flowers, and that they believe firmly in raw power.

I wonder if they also like moonlit walks on the beach…

Gossip will be touring Europe in May and July but assured fans in a recent blog post that they plan to have a full US tour later this year. Music For Men, which will be released June 22nd via Kill Rock Stars/Columbia, was produced by multi Grammy Award winner Rick Rubin and recorded at the historic Shangri La Studios in Malibu. Check out the single, “Heavy Cross” below.. totally dig the pseudo-disco beat. Ditto’s vocals surely demonstrate this raw power they like so much… For more info and music from the band, swing by their MySpace page.
