I know that I’ve been writing a LOT about U2, but seeing as they are my all-time favorite band, they are always worth writing about. Besides, they have been all OVER the place lately… it’s hard to ignore U2 news.
Their latest album, No Line on the Horizon, is definitely growing on me. I’ll admit that when the first single, “Get On Your Boots,” hit the airwaves, I wasn’t quite as enthusiastic as I had hoped to be. Then when the video was debuted, I was… well, really disappointed, to say the least. But since picking up the record and giving it a number of spins, I’ve grown to love it like Lyle (think about that one). Sure, I tend to skip over some songs, but as a whole, I think No Line on the Horizon is a solid record that marks an exciting time for the band.
Funny thing is, though, that I like the live versions of the songs better than those off the album. If you haven’t seen (or grabbed) their performances from David Letterman this week, click here and here to check it all out.
Anyhow, there are three songs that are fighting for “Favorite Song off the Album” spot. These three songs seem to keep rotating: “No Line on the Horizon,” “Moment of Surrender,” and “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight.” Today, my favorite is “No Line on the Horizon.”
There’s an explosive quality to this song that brings back the power in Bono’s voice again. He sounds better than ever… there’s a passion in his voice that I haven’t heard in quite a while. He’s “going for it” again and “No Line on the Horizon” is a prime example of this. Man, it feels good to love this band again.
Check out this live performance of “No Line on the Horizon” in the Dig-It section below. It sounds GREAT and shows that U2 still has that raw quality that brought them attention way back with Boy and October.
I LOVE this performance… way more than that on the album. VERY COOL.
