We made it… the final batch of Elvis Presley Outtakes…
I managed to stretch it out to ten installments! At first I thought I’d only make nine, but after some quick shuffling around, I made it to ten! Is anybody out there proud of me?
No? AWWWWWWWW :-(
That’s ok, though, because I’m glad we’ve hit the last of the bunch. It’s been fun revisiting all of these recordings… I’ve enjoyed it and I hope you have, too.
This batch only has three outtakes in it: “Only the Strong Survive,” “Promised Land,” and “Down in the Alley.” The “Promised Land” outtake is hilarious and well worth waiting for.
The rest of the songs are live recordings. A live performance of Elvis‘ “American Trilogy” can be found, and a few selections from his 1955 Louisiana Hayride shows are also posted. These recordings are the gems of this installment. Although I don’t know much about the Hayride shows, I do know that they were recorded at the start of his huge career… so they’re worth taking a listen to.
These Hayride tracks amazing in that you can feel the energy Elvis had on stage. “Maybellene” is one that I keep playing over and over again… the hootin’ and the hollerin’ of the crowd and band makes this recording exceptionally exciting to hear.
A book on the Louisiana Hayride shows has been published. According to the Elvis Information Network, “Written by Frank Page, the Hayride announcer who introduced the Hayride audience to the young greasy haired kid named Elvis Presley, with Joey Kent, son of the Hayride’s, Frank Kent, this is riveting stuff as it takes us on a fascinating Elvis journey across the southern states of the USA.
The Louisiana Hayride Years gives the reader a real feel for what Elvis was doing and how his life was moving along at a frantic pace.
There are so many tremendous on-stage and off-stage photos that it is difficult to do them all justice. The photos are in-your-face ranging from dynamic shots of the Hillbilly Cat tearing up the stage to canoodling with obviously delighted female fans before or after his shows.”
Very cool. You can pick up the book here.
There’s still so much about Elvis Presley that is out there to be uncovered. He’s been gone for over 30 years, but he’s probably just as popular now (if not more) than ever. If you haven’t already, take the time to listen to these outtakes in their entirety. It’s like watching all the Star Wars movies back-to-back… you’ll come out feeling like a Jedi.
And I’m sure Elvis would have loved that.
