The Rules: I reset the play counters for all the songs currently on my iTunes. Then at the end of every week, I check to see what the top five most played songs are. Whatever happens to be in this top five are then presented in order here from most played to least. If I have posted a particular song in the past, then I will bypass that song and post the next in line. If one artist dominates the list, then I will write about that artist in lieu of a Top Five list.
The Super Bowl is coming up soon!!!! Did your team make it? Mine did(n’t).
Awwwwww… :-(
Oh well. I guess there’s nothing more to do but take a look at This Week’s Top 5 Most Played Songs From Swap’s iTunes…
But wait! One more thing… there’s a new poll posted on the right sidebar regarding the new U2 single, “Get On Your Boots.” If you haven’t submitted your vote yet, now is a great time to do just that! Let’s see what you all thought of the song! What’s that? You haven’t even heard it yet? Well, click here to read more about the song and the upcoming album!
Ok… now on with the list…

Shooting Star – Bob Dylan
“Shooting Star” is a track off of Bob Dylan‘s 26th studio album, Oh Mercy. Released in 1989, Oh Mercy received critical acclaim and helped Dylan reestablish himself in the charts, reaching number 30.
Oh Mercy is one of my favorite Dylan albums, and I continue to spin it to this day.
Although there are so many excellent tracks on the record, “Shooting Star” was the one I listened to the most this week, placing it at the number one spot. I can’t recall what I thought about while listening to the song, but I’m sure it was something deep, philosophical, and reflected my GENIUS.
Oh, I remember now… Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. MMMMMMMM!!!
I have no idea what ice cream has to do with the song, but it was enough to make me play it thirteen times.

Trees – Everest
Everest has had quite a year. They recorded an album, and went on tour with Neil Young, who chose them personally. That’s pretty cool.
Their album, Ghost Notes, is a wonderful listen. It’s got a great feel to it and reminds you of the way it feels to drive and drive to nowhere in particular, under the blanket of a burning sun.
At least that’s what it does for me. I love playing the record on my way to my classes… true, I’m usually stuck in traffic, but I have my windows open and a smile upon my face. Other drivers are probably wondering, “What are you so happy about? We’re stuck in traffic!” I just smile, wave, and turn it up.
“Trees” is probably one of their more popular songs, and rightfully so. It’s a gorgeous listen and made it to the number two slot this week with twelve plays. JUST missed the top spot.

I Won’t Be Lost – Natalie Imbruglia
Natalie Imbruglia is probably best known for her 1997 hit song, “Torn.” I actually heard the song again today while shopping at an office supplies store. Anyhow, what many people don’t realize is that, aside from her debut album Left of the Middle, she has more records under her belt… and they’re all quite good. Her second album, White Lilies Island, is a great listen, and in 2005 she released her third record, Counting Down the Days.
If you’re not too familiar with her music aside from “Torn,”, I think “I Won’t Be Lost” (off of Counting Down the Days) will be a nice introduction to her sound. If you’re looking for an album to pick up, I highly recommend White Lilies Island. In my humble opinion, it’s her strongest effort.
Regarding her acting career, I remember seeing her in the 2003 comedy, Johnny English and kept hoping that she’d break into a song. Did anyone see this movie? I thought it was pretty funny… that Mr. Bean kills me!
“I Won’t Be Lost” was played ten times this week.

Four Chords and Seven Beers – Stephen Cochran
“Four Chords and Seven Beers” has always been my favorite song off of Stephen Cochran‘s self-titled debut album. I love the melody, the instrumentation, the performance, and pretty much everything else about it.
The lyric, “Two lovers, too proud to just let it go,” is something I think we can all relate to. I think you’ll find that the entire lyric is relatable.
Even if you’re not a huge country music fan, I think you’ll like this song. Good songs are good songs, no matter what genre they are labeled under.
Stephen just got back from a two-week trip to Iraq. He and his band went to perform for the troops, and from what I hear, he did a bang-up job.
I played “Four Chords and Seven Beers” nine times this week, landing it in the number four slot.

Take It Back (live) – Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd does not really need any introduction. They’re PINK FLOYD, afterall. I think it’s hilarious when people think Pink Floyd is a person… “Yeah, I like HIS music!”
Makes me want to grab them, give them a good shake, and say, “Whassamattawithyou?????”
This live bootleg of Take It Back reminds me my first and only time seeing them in concert. The tour was in support of The Division Bell, and was an absolutely amazing show to witness. There were lasers, lights, video clips, a flying pig, and a lot of awesome music.
I don’t know how many of you have heard The Division Bell, but it’s definitely a Floyd album that’s worth picking up. The guitar solos on the album absolutely floor me!
Man, that Pink Floyd guy can PLAY!

You know, not having my team (The Chargers) in the Super Bowl actually takes the pressure off of my life. I won’t be sitting in front of my television set, pulling my hair out at every dropped pass, every punt, and every short gain. I know that The Chargers thought of me when they purposely lost to The Steelers. If you’d like a more detailed explanation on why they purposefully lost, click here… you can get some cool news about some other artists as well. See how it’s all interconnected here?
February 1st is the day… mark it on your calendar!!!
