Here is the sixth installment of the Elvis Presley Outtakes. We’re now at the end of disc two of the collection… two down, one to go!
Since this series began in November, I’ve actually been doing more research and reading about The King… mostly to have information for these posts, but also because (as I’ve said before) these outtakes show me a side of Elvis that I’ve never thought about before. He will ALWAYS be “The King” to me, but through these recordings, he’s become a “person” to me. I’ll admit that before doing all this reading/research, I never really read that much about the man. I guess I’ve always put him on such a high pedestal that he didn’t seem like a mortal.
That’s not to say that I see him as just a “guy” now, because dude… he’s frikkin’ ELVIS.
Anyhow, I’ve come across some rather interesting trivia about Elvis, so for this post, I’m going to list some of my favorite “Elvis Trivia.”
1. “Brut” was Elvis’ aftershave lotion of choice [1]
2. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, was a Vegas showgirl for Elvis. She met him one night and told him that she was a virgin. As the night progressed, she states that, “It was clear that he was not going to, like, hit on me.” But she goes on to say, “It would have been great to have him as my first lover. If it’s got to be somebody, it might as well be Elvis.” [2]
3. Before working as a truck driver, Elvis was an usher for the Loew’s State Theater located on Memphis’ Main Street.
4. The FBI has well over 600 pages of files on Elvis. [1]
5. Elvis was very much in love with Elizabeth Montgomery, who played Samantha from the sitcom Bewitched.
6. Elvis had a twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley, who died at birth. [3]
7. Elvis was 12 years old when he got his first guitar in 1946. It was a birthday present from his Mother and it cost $12.95 at the Tupelo Hardware Store. [1]
8. His all-time favorite may have been Patton, starring George C. Scott; he memorized every line of it and could repeat it at will. [4]
9. His last words to anyone outside of Graceland were to his first cousin and assistant, Billy Smith: “Billy, son,” he said, referring to his upcoming series of concerts, “this is gonna be my best tour ever.” [4]
10. Elvis paid $100,000 for his home, Graceland.
11. Elvis’ favorite soft drink was Pepsi
12. President Jimmy Carter is a distant cousin of Elvis’. (so am I!)
13. The last song Elvis performed onstage was “Can’t Help Falling In Love”
14. His last concert was on June 26, 1977 at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis.
15. The last book Elvis was reading was Frank Adams‘ book, “The Scientific Search for the Face of Jesus. [5]
16. The last words Elvis said were to his girlfriend Ginger. As he headed to the bathroom, she told him, “Don’t fall asleep in there.” Elvis replied, “Ok, I won’t.” [5]
Ok, number sixteen was pretty depressing to write. Now I’m bummed. Good thing all these outtakes are below in the Dig-It section… they’ll certainly brighten my mood.

This past summer I visited Graceland for the first time. I didn’t know what to expect. It was a very cool experience. Looking at the stuff there really shows the “Celebrity” was nothing like anything before or since I don’t think as well as the “every guy” stuff too. It’s like time stopped in the mid-70’s. Green shag carpet on the ceiling, yeah that looks good Elvis!
His voice is so rich recorded, can you imagine what it would have been like to be a quest a Graceland and get to hear him sing at the piano in the parlor?
Thanks for the outtakes, I was listening to the one yesterday of him getting so cracked up singing to the bald guy.
Sure was fun, wasn’t it? ;-)
Thanks for the outtakes, Tommy. These are awesome.
Happy Birthday, Elvis!
