U2: Live at Point Depot (New Year’s Eve 1989 – part II)

alt text

As promised, here’s the second half of the 1989 New Year’s show that U2 played in Dublin, Ireland. This concert was in the midst of their Lovetown tour, which featured B.B. King as the opening act. King also came back onstage for U2′s encores, which you will hear at the end of this particular show.

It was also during this tour that Bono stated, “I was explaining to people the other night, but I might’ve got it a bit wrong – this is just the end of something for U2. And that’s what we’re playing these concerts – and we’re throwing a party for ourselves and you. It’s no big deal, it’s just – we have to go away and … and dream it all up again.”

Their next album, of course, was the incredible Achtung Baby.

I love Bono’s idea of “dreaming it all up again.” Some may argue that U2 tried TOO hard to “dream it all up again” with all the albums PAST Achtung Baby, but let it never be said that they didn’t push themselves to evolve.

This New Year’s Eve show was supposed to be the last one of the tour, but because of complications and postponed shows, the tour continued on… it’s a great marker, though… a time stamp to one of the strongest eras ever conceived by a band. The song selection in this concert was GREAT, and it reminds me of all that made U2 my favorite band.

Again, I apologize for the way this bootleg is cut up…
