You know, I have all his "season" albums from Windham Hill, and I have to agree that "Autumn" is a great one next to "December."

I've seen him in concert once and thought he was just hilarious for some reason. His stoic, deadpan style really contrasts the emotion in his music. When he plays the harmonica... WOW! Stunningly talented man.

Thank you for commenting!!!!

This album could be on repeat and I'd just let it play... oh yeah, and the same for "Born to Run..."

i remember watching him perform at royce hall at UCLA with no shoes...this album is a definite classic, exceptionally well played for someone who started playing the organ at age 18 and the piano at age 22. My favorite is "Joy". A perfect blend of winter, joy, sadness and hope.

I've been listening to GW since forever it seems. I have to agree that “Variations on the Kanon by Johann Pachelbel” is an amazing thing to listen to. Mr. Winston really outdid himself in his key arrangement to make it sound just right. It's not my favorite album of his since that belongs to "Autumn" but is it one of his best and I never fail to put on the song "Thanksgiving" when the family sits down to our feast. One thing his music is also great for... videos. When I put my family photos onto a slideshow dvd there is always plenty of George Winston piano to serve as background music.

Sadly, his concerts haven't really done it for me though. Most of his music is not high energy... it's more of a pleasurable mind-drifting experience. So in the evening when he performs you will find your eyes closing and then suddenly! you're asleep. I hope that came out right since I don't mean that in a bad way. It's simply the kind of music he plays; comfortable and soothing. I like a more visual and uplifting concert.

So do not hesitate to buy his music, there are few better performers and I have almost all his albums. But be aware of a 2 hour concert of the same. I don't think it works as well live.

I love the piano. His music is just beautiful. I was going to try to see him next Sunday, but I was just told that's when we're doing our Christmas get together with one of my brothers. Phooey. But if he's here once, I'm sure he'll be here again, so hopefully I'll catch him next time around!

Thank you for the tunes :)

We actually have an album (besides "Born to Run") in common. Who knew? I used to listen for many hours. So good to be reminded of good music unheard for too long.

I remember that one. I discovered that cd from my sis sometime in the late 80's. I fell in love with it the moment I listened to them. His version of Kanon is the best I've heard. Thanks for posting about this cd. Should get my copy on my next visit to the record store.
