Their first album was rightly compared to the Rolling Stones. When I first saw their “Hard To Handle” video, I immediately thought of Mick Jagger. SHMC, thanks to its continuity, is more like the Beatles’ Abbey Road, especially the second side (of Abbey Road) – you’ve got to listen to the whole album and not skip any seconds. My humble opinion!!!

I agree with you that Ford’s guitarwork was a major plus for the band. I sincerely missed his playing when he left the group for the first time, and miss it now on Warpaint as well.

The Crowes have had some excellent records, yes… they all show different sides of their writing, especially their current release, Warpaint. I think Southern Harmony is where they really developed their own style, though… it’s where all the seeds were planted. Plus it just fuckin’ rocks.

I`m 55 years old..i have boogied with many good rock bands.The Black Crowes are a great rock and roll band , something that is sadly missing in music these days…too many wimpy girly singers and elevator muzak styled pop bands..the crows rock,,and rock ahrd..

Arguably, the addition of Marc Ford was a real musical catalyst for the sound of SHMC. Marc's simplistic yet raw and emotional style helped create a sound that was much looser and soulful that what the band did for Shake Your Money Maker. Marc has also done some awesome solo work and just released a new record a week or two ago called Marc Ford And The Neptune Blues Club.
