Their first album was rightly compared to the Rolling Stones. When I first saw their "Hard To Handle" video, I immediately thought of Mick Jagger. SHMC, thanks to its continuity, is more like the Beatles' Abbey Road, especially the second side (of Abbey Road) - you've got to listen to the whole album and not skip any seconds. My humble opinion!!!

Thanks for commenting!!!! And I'm glad you dig on the Crowes... they've been doing their thang now for decades, and I hope they continue to work for a long, long time. Warpaint is an excellent album and I can't wait to see what they've got comin'.

I agree with you that Ford's guitarwork was a major plus for the band. I sincerely missed his playing when he left the group for the first time, and miss it now on Warpaint as well.

Thank you for the links! I knew he was releasing a solo record, but didn't know it was out yet! Will have to check it ou!

The Crowes have had some excellent records, yes... they all show different sides of their writing, especially their current release, Warpaint. I think Southern Harmony is where they really developed their own style, though... it's where all the seeds were planted. Plus it just fuckin' rocks.

Thanks, Thomas, you know how I love my Black Crowes! And, as always, thanks so much for the history lesson. I love to tell people ... "What I know about music I've learned from Thomas Lee." To which they say "Huh?"

Arguably, the addition of Marc Ford was a real musical catalyst for the sound of SHMC. Marc's simplistic yet raw and emotional style helped create a sound that was much looser and soulful that what the band did for Shake Your Money Maker. Marc has also done some awesome solo work and just released a new record a week or two ago called Marc Ford And The Neptune Blues Club.

Here's a Marc Ford freebie for you, Marc sitting in on San Diego's Barbara Nesbitt's Sond "A Million Stories" at The Belly Up Tavern.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEAjCjHDUrw. This was a promotional outtake from Marc's performance with Deadline Friday for their CD Release which is available on DVD and includes Marc sitting in with Deadline Friday on a bunch of songs including The Rolling Stones "Loving Cup". You can get the DVD here.... http://www.idynomitemedia.com/video.html

ok, that was more of a Marc Ford rant than about SHMC, sorry Swap. =)
