Man, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you get REALLY lucky.
I cannot believe I was able to get my hands on this bootleg of Pink Floyd’s 1970 performance on the legendary Peel Sessions. VERY cool.

All I know about this bootleg is that it’s dated July 16, 1970. And Pink frikkin’ Floyd played it.

Take a look at the track listing… most of the selections are from Atom Heart Mother (which was released about two months after this performance). Although the members of Pink Floyd publicly trounced the Atom Heart Mother recordings, the album was important in that it established the use of sound effects, voice samples/loops, and a more symphonic quality to their music. These qualities would help shape and characterize their later albums, most notably that of Dark Side of the Moon.
Interesting thing about the cover to Atom Heart Mother: the story goes that the photographer had “gone out into the countryside and [taken] a picture of the first thing he saw.”
This bootleg contains the 25 minute suite Atom Heart Mother performed by Pink Floyd accompanied by the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and the John Aldiss Choir. Pretty spectacular, if you ask me. Thank you, John Peel!
Grab some headphones, a bag of popcorn, and let it all go for a while.
Be good.
